such great heights
"I think I just needed some me time. I knew I needed it in the days prior to school starting up again. I guess I just lost track of it when assignments and due dates began to present themeselves. My focus got caught up in that, and in not wanting to face more challenges than I was prepared for. Don't get me wrong, I still would much rather be studying the more human aspects of life, but I guess I can just do that on my own until this portion of my education career - an introductory degree, if you will - is completed and I'm free to explore other areas."
note* this post was written on paper no where near a computer, and the date and time correspond to that moment.
<< the shadowlands | Main | calliope >> 03:34 PM by Rob"Which brings me to today. Got to school at 8:00am ish, add some further difficulties (just as a review: we worked on the presentation for a number of hours on thursday after class. We leave, I go to worship practice, come home to work on it, and it wasn't uploaded correctly. I tell them we will meet earlier the next morning to put the content into the presentation. Instead of researching my content further, I layed on the floor in my room for a good 20minutes. I then proceeded to watch a middle-eastern episode of Pilot Guides for an hour before giving up completely and heading for bed.), and the presentation was acceptable; minus a lack of memory at one point resulting in the need to restart the program. However, the instructor was still pleased with us. At the end I made a nice on-the-spot concluding remark which he thought to be well said. (asked me to include it in the presentation before handing that in) (remember, this is the teach I like)
Okay. So that all out of the way, I'm now sitting on a bench overlooking English Bay. It took a bit of skytrain and walking, but I'm glad I'm here. It's rather forest gump of me, only without random bench warmers and no chocolate. It is odd how much I say I enjoy photography, but then I do nothing when opportunities present themselves due to a lack of hardware. It's just that when I have a camera on me I feel pressured to take good photos and often end up taking none at all. I would much rather enjoy the subject of said photos in real life and in the present. Such as now. And here is where I would try to write descriptive imagery so you all could enjoy it too, but I'm selfish and my finger is beginning to hurt from all this writing."
Insert more time sitting and just watching the events around me, until I just had to write about it. And now I present to you my wannabe observational writing skills.
"Oh how I want to live here. There is such community among the people, and a general laid-back attitude with good dose of urban diversity. There are couples walking along the path holding hands friends taking pictures of eachother as they pose upon the sand, a man and his yoga mat oblivious to the world around him. Bikers whizz past behind me, creating a wave that has no shore to crash upon. A crow wades through the fallen leaves, planning and placing each step more delicately than the last. Others are left to enjoy the company of their thoughts, or of a well-written novel. Men, women, children, pets; all seem to simply fit together as if it were all planned out ahead of time.
I'm sorry, a pigeon just tried to eat my shoe. Concentration ruined and skin thoroughly conquered by the increasing winds; it's time to move on."
Upon finishing that sentence, I packed my things and walked back up towards the main part of town, by way of Davie St. Then it was down to coal harbour to catch a glimpse of the Shaw Tower and a cruise ship waiting to depart, before getting on the skytrain and heading home.
It was a good day.
sounds like a good day. good observation writing. you're neat.
Posted by: mark at September 17, 2004 11:22 PMi like it when you are "OUT" of your head. You sem to flow alot easier, and gee, you breathe and relax as well. It's always suggested that you take time for yourself amid the NOISE of life and school. Cruise Ships ROCK !!! Wish i was out there on the odd occasion. nice to see you relax, it's about time.
