viaggio

The genitori are in Hawaii for a little over a week to take advantage of last-minute cheap airfare, and to get in one last vacation before dad starts his new job (yeah, 60+ and just got a new job; long, long story). That's nice for them. They called tonight to let me know they got to the condo and the views are amazing, and then mom made sure to hold the phone towards the ocean so I could hear the waves crashing. That was just cruel. But here I am now, home alone for 9 days... it's so nice.

When they went on trips in the past there was always at least 1 other sibling here, though more like at least 2.. but now that sorella#due is married and sorella#tré is living on campus, it's just me to hold down the fort, and by no means am I complaining. I feel so productive and full of energy, yet still relaxed and content... making my own food, cleaning my messes, doing my laundry, all without anyone to answer to apart from myself. I'm so looking forward to moving out if it's like this (as long as I don't get a lazy, dirty slob for a roommate).. although I would certainly miss the space I have here.

Hmm. I don't know what to say anymore. I'm tired of wanting to think and talk about me. It must be that late-inverno slump, or maybe the record rainfall we've had for the past 2 months (broke all time records last month)

So how about this - my archaeology course is interessantissimo. Even though the lecture is 3 hours long, I find myself wide awake and paying attention for the entire duration of the class. I'm wondering what it might be like to ask the prof if he has any openings in a summer field study, or even if he's doing one this year. He showed us some photos of the work he's done up in the central interior of BC, near Kamloops, over the past number of years. It looked really, really interesting, and molto divertente. I'd get to be outside doing something productive and not something as monotonous as construction or other outdoorsy jobs.. while also getting to converse with fellow workers, enjoy the scenery, gain lots of knowledge, and have a generally good time. I'll look into it. (I mean i still watch shows like Nova and National Geographic for fun... haha speaking of which, he often shows such videos in class, and so far i'd already seen 2 of the 3 we've watched)

I guess that's it for now.

Oh, and il corso d'italiano è buono e ancora un po' divertente. Sono insegnato che mólto ma imparo poco.

That's great, I didn't know you were doing archaeology. I did Graeco-Roman civilisation (and Greek and Latin) in my days, and one of my fellow students (whom I was horribly in love with, but who was, of course, gay, as were the other two guys in class, but that's a different story...) was majoring in classical archaelogy. He did Easter & summer field studies in and around Rome (Italian classes would have come in handy!). He loved the work - apparently it's impossible NOT to find something of archaeological interest wherever you dig in Rome - and was intrigued by the gay community he got in touch with in Rome... (Needless to say, his bf, who didn't go with him on the field trips, wasn't equally impressed. Though I hasten to add my friend did nothing immoral, unless you count looking...)

Perhaps you should opt for field studies in Italy? As far as I know there isn't such a huge Italian-talking community in BC?!?!

Enjoy being home alone :)
