NW 220
The engines began to accelerate, and I was pulled into my seat. More than an hour since I'd first sat down, it seemed we were on our way. No power failure, emergency lights, hot air through conditioning vents, and a return to the bay would prevent us from taking off. Palms flew past the window. A golf course of green, and that familiar aquamarine. Yellow lines, painted on the pavement. Incline. Shadow. Airborne.

outlook
Perhaps it was the daily photography. Or maybe it was the added stress of weekly presentations. In either case, I'm finding this semester, though less hectic than the previous few, is more difficult in a couple ways. Firstly, because the deadlines aren't as imminent, it means more time to procrastinate. Secondly, because there's more time to procrastinate, there's more time to think about being single. And with that, there's more time to visit online dating sites... and then become grumpy/sad about the prospects. Yep, that's me when I don't keep myself busy enough. Perhaps I should start up the photoblog again.. that required a good 2-hrs a day..

I was upright, camera in hand, shooting away for some time before I realized where I was. People's Full Gospel Church. Now that's odd. Sprawled out on the platform to get a better view of my subject, the location quickly made sense. I was in the church of my youth, photographing my father and myself. Man, what eyes I had in those days; as deep and saturated as a tropical sea. My younger self seemed a bit less shy than I remember, made obvious by the fact that he actually looked directly into the camera without sinking down between the pews. What the two of them were doing sitting in the 2nd row of an otherwise empty church (apart from another individual roaming the back quarters of the sanctuary) was beyond me. I was just there to take photographs of this young face.

blankets
Yo-Yo Ma and the New York Philharmonic playing live at Lincoln Centre on the tele have wooed me into a state of wonderful relaxation. What better use of this time than to put away the remaining memories of my summer to save for a rainy day.

Raindrops. More raindrops. Air so wet and humid you can practically drink it's muggy warmth. Trees, assorted in shape and size, dripping with moisture, the drops falling on grass, green and spongy, like, well, grass after days of intense summer rain. Traffic skating by, ripples in their wakes, one after another after another. Waiting tables a little higher than usual. Cupcakes, DVD cases, birthday discounts, red shirts, old people, soup samples in miniature folded paper cups, parking, decorations, chinese canadian cuisine, more parking, a gutted basement, exploding pop. Rain. More rain. And a jeep, rushing through it all. Heat on, windows off, leather wet. Lights blowing past in the dark. Reflections of movement off the pavement, and the doors, and the glass.

iona summer
running in the surf across miles of beach with a friend and 4-legged companion.
staying up until 7am, enjoying the gradual rise of the sun from 3:15 on.
walking 4km to the middle of the ocean on a concrete pipe covered in weeds.
driving in circles for hours with no real destination.

symphony
Warm, soft summer rain after a week of beautifully sunny skies.
Accompanying thunder, lightning, pockets of hail and patches of blue.
The sweet scent of dry earth and vegetation becoming saturated once again.
The smell of dusty, oil-covered pavement turning into gentle waterways; tiny waves rippling downhill, forming miniature rivers at the curb, dragging away leaves and rocks that were forgotten by the winter.
